Kung Hei Fat Choi! On February 16, 2018, the Rooster will give way to the Dog as the Chinese New Year arrives. It’s an auspicious time to celebrate and attract good luck in your office. Here are six things that you can do:
Spring Cleaning
Cleaning before the New Year is a Chinese tradition. The country’s word for ‘dust’ is a homophone for ‘old’. They’re symbolically getting rid of the old to welcome the new. Get the office ready! Arrange those files and folders, throw out the trash, and don’t leave a speck of dust on the desks.
Decorate
With the office now spotlessly clean, it’s time to decorate! Festive and lucky red lanterns, red knots, New Year couplets, and dog-themed decorations are favorites. This can even be turned into a contest between employees and award the one that garnered the most luck.
Renovate
The company can also do something a bit more permanent. The New Year ushers in a change in the flow of chi, the energy that surrounds all things. To harness this flow, it might be good to add office partitions or replace important desks with luckier furniture.
Yusheng
Yusheng is a raw fish salad, which is popular in Singapore and Malaysia. However, just like ‘dust’ and ‘old’, yusheng is pronounced similarly to ‘abundance’. But celebrators don’t just eat it, on the New Year, they stand up and toss it as high as they can while loudly shouting wishes for good luck.
Lucky Money
Money tucked into red envelopes brings great fortune for its recipients. Originally, given to children, many employers and managers prepare token lucky money in these distinctive packets for their subordinates. Remember, fortunate workers create better workplaces.
New Year Party
The Chinese New Year is a great time to hold a team building party! Arrange a potluck with your team or go to a restaurant. Since the day was declared a public holiday, schedule the party on the day before and let everybody enjoy the New Year with their family.
Have a great at the office before the Chinese New Year!
